Trusted to deliver learning experiences for...

We created our own Edition, which is basically core Totara with added extras. Check out each major release and what features you can expect from each:
We’re working on a number of improvements to our Edition. They include:
The Course Name Block is where you can display the course name, course image and progress bar across the top of a course page.
This is a visual addition to courses which gives learners more information at first glance.
This is an addition to our existing Course Notes Activity. You can now take notes via a pop-up modal without leaving an activity.
Plus, you can download your notes as a PDF for review later.
We’re updating the design of Topics course format so that it’s more modern and user-friendly.
Styling will highlight activities and improve the overall look of the page to make it more engaging.
Bulk uploading courses? It can be cumbersome adding activity images, so we’re making a tool that will allow you to set a default image for each activity.
Don’t worry, you can override this to add unique images where it’s needed. This saves time, but still gives you creative control.
The My Courses block has had a design upgrade that makes it more visual.
Plus, you can now add completed courses for more visibility of finished learning as well as progressing content.
With our Font Selector mod, you’ll be able to incorporate Google Fonts to your LMS to pick a style that suits your platform.
This could also be great for stylised LMSs e.g. for a Christmas theme!
We love the v20 catalogue and so we’re going to update our eCommerce catalogue to match.
This keeps both catalogues cohesive.
If you’re using our gamification add-on, now it’ll be even easier to assign points for actions like learners completing a course.
This gives you much more flexibility when it comes to creating engagement.
One key piece of work is ensuring our Edition is compatible with v19. We also made sure to include the new sidebar menu within our own theme, Blueprint.
We’ve built a totally new block to add to your dashboard where you can feature important content.
This includes adding an image, a heading, text and a call to action button.
We built a new activity where learners can add notes within a course or programme.
As they progress through the course, they can add new notes and then at the end, you can also add an activity where these notes can be downloaded.
This is great for revision purposes, and the doc will come out with the course tile and branding already attached.
With learners using all different manners of media in their day to day lives, it’s only right that this is reflected in the learning world too.
That’s why we’ve built an audio activity where you can embed MP3 files for learners.
We’ve upgraded our v1.0 release of Tiles format so you can automatically create branded tile images instead of relying on manual upload of images.

We’ve updated the quiz styling to match the rest of our Blueprint theme. This includes changes to the styling of the questions, and quiz navigation so that it looks sleeker
In our theme, Blueprint, you can alter the background colour of your platform for bigger impact and better brand cohesion.

We’ve created a gamification module that can be embedded into your LMS.
Add point allocations for set actions to create leaderboards to create competition.

We’ve built passkeys so your learners can log on simply and easily.
All they need to do is create a passkey via their phone or computer, and then login to that device each time they wish to log into the LMS.
We’ve built our own theme, Blueprint, which comes as standard with our Edition.
This has sleek colour options, smoother dashboard block options and rounded edges for a more modern and streamlined look.
Add a dashboard image which will act as chosen image. You can use this purely for decoration, or as a way to make global announcements.
We built a new block to add to dashboards that allows you to push the next learning content in a series. This allows learners to be reminded of training and to pick up where they left off.

Totara allows you to see your earned badges via a block. We’ve amended this to create our own version of the block to allow you to see achieved badges, as well as available badges.
So when you start a new training course, you’ll unlock all the badges you could achieve.

Topics in courses look clunky (who wants a big long block of text?!). So we built tile course format, where you can set topics as individual blocks with an image, to make it look more visually appealing.
We’ve built another new block which allows learners to see their learning. This block is different from the “My Learning” block because of the categorisation of courses.
The “My Courses” block organises courses into categories, facilitating a more structured and simplified user experience.
This custom-built activity allows you to seamlessly integrate your videos into your learning content. You can add captions and subtitles to be truly accessible.
Customise completion criteria by specifying a required watch percentage and access to in-depth reporting to better understand user interaction with video content.
Plus, learners can resume partially watched videos, right from where they left off.
Some of the core features we’ve made (or are making) as part of our major releases, we’ve shared below because we know you’ll love them.
Introducing the BuildEmpire Edition.
That’s our version of core Totara. It comes with add-ons like passkeys, extra video formatting and tile grids.
Most recently, we’ve created our own version of the Totara theme; called Blueprint. It’s a cleaner base to build your LMS off of.
Create courses in your catalogue and sell directly to your users via a Stripe connection.
Whether you sell online courses, tickets to learning events or a mixture of the two, you can create SEO-friendly, public landing pages to drive more revenue and manage all aspects of content access automatically with your Totara LMS.
See it first by signing up to our newsletter.
We’ll share Totara v20 and BuildEmpire Edition 3.0 sneak peeks in the coming weeks…
We know learner engagement is a huge challenge in L&D.
We’re working on adding a points system so you can reward your users. Whether you pick gems, points, coins or stars!
And you can use this points system to create a leaderboard to encourage competitiveness.
